This week’s conflict resolution tip is about the importance of creating peace within yourself.
The old adage that “peace starts within” contains profound insight into how we can better resolve interpersonal conflicts and build peace in our lives. It is often a lot easier to resolve conflicts with others when we have first worked on and maintained a state of internal peace ourselves. In fact, if we have created peace with ourselves, it is much harder to be in conflict with others in general.
How do we create this inner peace? Creating peace within yourself requires that we take care of ourselves. If we want to live out of a state of inner peace, we should ask ourselves: What practices am I incorporating into my daily life—exercising, meditating, eating, sleeping—that contribute positively to my well-being? What environments and people do I surround myself with to cultivate peace-centered living? What boundaries have I made for myself and with others to give this internal peace growing consistency? When we ask ourselves these questions, we can begin to figure out what needs to change in our day-to-day living to better create internal peace and therefore, bring more peace into our lives.
